CWSL - Rules/Policies

Game Start:  All games will start on time unless the referee allows a 5 minute grace period of the scheduled start time due to lack of players or field issues. The 5 minute grace period also determines if the game is deemed a forfeit. As soon as both teams have at least 7 players, the game should begin. Teams must forfeit if they have less than 7 players after the 5 minute grace period.

Uniforms: Players MUST wear their current team shirt.  If you do not have your current shirt, you are able to wear your team color and MUST have your number on the back.  Shin guards are MANDATORY

Pets: Our contract excludes us from allowing pets to be on the fields during the games -- YOU MUST LEAVE YOUR PETS AT HOME. If you have friends or family coming to the games, please let them know pets are not allowed at the fields. We love pets, and have pets, but we must abide by our contract. If we are in violation of our contract, we may be kicked off the fields and have nowhere to play.  Service Animals, as defined under the ADA, are permitted.

Yellow/Red Cards: This is a recreational league. A yellow or red card may be given at the discretion of the referee.

DISCIPLINARY PANEL:  A panel of current players from various teams (excluding captains and league directors) to asses disciplinary actions of any player showing any behavioral issues or violent conduct in the league.

Any red card given will be sent to the Disciplinary Panel for review; the Disciplinary Panel will be solely responsible for making penal decisions and their determination is final.

Sliding/Slide Tackling  IS NOT ALLOWED. Please be careful and stay in control. A caution (yellow card) will be given for the first offense, ejection (red card) for a second offense. ** Goal keepers are allowed to slide WITHIN the penalty box when making a play on the ball.**

Safety is #1 - Remember we all have lives off the soccer field and an injury would not only affect us, but also our families.

FIGHTING WILL NOT BE TOLERATED: The referee will red card the player(s) and send the player(s) off the field. The Disciplinary Panel will collect details of the incident by email from the referees, captains and any players directly involved. Once a decision is made, an email will be sent with the final decision.

Handballs: a player shall be called for deliberately handling, carrying, striking or propelling the ball with the hand or arm (i.e. hand to ball or seeking to get an advantage). The denying of a goal is an automatic red card.

Off-sides: a player in an offside position is only called (off-sides), if at the moment the ball touches or is played by one of her teammates and there are not opponents nearer to the goal line by: 1) interfering with play / opponent or 2) gaining an advantage by being in that position. Off-sides is determined when the ball is played.

CWSL Guest Players: CWSL Guest Players must be CURRENTLY in the league. If a team is under 11 players, that team is allowed to have a maximum of two (2) CWSL Guest Players per game during each regular season game, equaling up to 11 players; goalkeepers are able to be CWSL Guest Players but are ONLY allowed to play as a field player. If members of the team, utilizing CWSL Guest Players, show up, the CWSL Guest Player(s) must step off the field and may NOT be used as a sub!  There are no CWSL Guest Players allowed during Playoffs!

Language: any incidental use of vulgar or profane language - first gets a warning, but after a warning, a yellow card will be issued. It will depend on manner, who it is directed to and who hears it. Using insulting, offensive language or gestures will result in an automatic red card.

CWSL HARASSMENT STATEMENT AND NON-DISCRIMINATION AND STANCE AGAINST RACISM

Sexual Harassment: It is unlawful to harass a person because of that person's sex. Harassment can include sexual harassment or unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical harassment of a sexual  nature.

Harassment does not have to be of a sexual nature, however, and can include offensive remarks about a person's sex, gender, race, color, religion, national origin, disability, or age. Although the law doesn't prohibit simple teasing, offhand comments, or isolated incidents that are not very serious, harassment is illegal when it is so frequent or severe that it creates a hostile or offensive environment. (Title  VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964)

At any and all CWSL sponsored events, including matches, social events, etc., Harassment will not be tolerated in any way. In the event that a Harassment scenario is brought to the CWSL Directors, it will be recorded and reviewed by the CWSL Disciplinary Panel who shall reserve the right for further discipline to individuals and/or teams. During matches, the match official is in charge and all accusations shall be brought to the official to then be recorded in the official match report. The CWSL Directors have a ZERO Tolerance policy towards Harassment and will render discipline on an a la cart basis allowing both the accuser and accused to be heard.

Discrimination of any kind against a team, private person or group of people on account of ethnic origin, gender, language, religion, politics or any other reason is strictly prohibited and punishable by suspension or expulsion from CWSL .
